University Hospitals Birmingham
The new Government has recognised “we need to improve IT in the NHS.” Improvement in quality of information = improvement in quality of care for patients. A recent Conservative paper said: “The key is for technology to serve clinicians, not the other way round; and for patients to have confidence in, and more control, over their data.”
For University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust these aspirations are already the reality. Birmingham Systems, an entity developed in-house, is delivering best practise technology products that are improving outcomes for patients. Two products are being used in other Trusts and several more are being piloted within UHB.
Birmingham Systems’ Prescribing Information and Communications System (PICS)
Saves Lives – prevents 66% prescription errors
Saves Time – enabling clinicians to spend more time with patients
Saves Money – drug budget control and reducing unnecessary tests
Birmingham Systems’ Healthcare Evaluation Data (HED)
HED enables users to improve quality of care through enhanced surveillance ability of NHS clinical quality monitoring, benchmarking performance against hospital trusts nationally
